In the last two weeks Summit Police Officers concluded their efforts in raising money for two very good causes, at least for this year. Summit Officers have been volunteering of themselves for several years to help raise money for the St. Baldricks Foundation, a charity that raises money for childhood cancer research. Through the generous donations made by friends, family and community businesses "Team Summit" was able to raise over $6100.00. As has been a tradition, officers from Team Summit joined members of Team Trooper made up by members of the Illinois State Police on Sunday, March 12, 2023, in Lockport, IL and shaved their hair off in support of the many men, women and children who are afflicted with the terrible disease.
Summit Officers also participated in this year's Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics. Several officers joined some of our neighboring agencies on Saturday, March 4, 2023 and braved the very cold waters of a lake in Manteno, IL. These officers were able to raise over $2,000.00 this year to support the wonderful athletes of Special Olympics, Illinois. This is the 2nd year that Summit officers have participated in the Polar Plunge and it seems like it will be an ongoing and growing event for the members of the Summit F.O.P.
We would like to thank the efforts of St. Baldricks team captain, Officer M. Mann and Polar Plunge team captain officer S. Tovar for their selfless acts to organize these teams.
And thank you to all who supported these officers through your generosity.
