Neighborhood Watch

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

GOAL STATEMENT

To promote citizen and community involvement and assistance to the Summit Police Department. Its importance is to prevent and reduce crime and promote awareness and a wholesome environment within the community by working together.

MEETINGS

Our meetings are on the third Thursday of every month, except December, at 6:30 p.m. in the Courthouse next to the Summit Police Department. The meetings last approximately one hour. Everyone is welcome.

ABOUT US

We have audience participation where residents voice problems, concerns, questions or compliments. We occasionally have input from the Garfield Ridge Neighborhood watch group, our neighbors to the east. That is followed by an update by Chief Kosmowski. The Chief reports on recent developments within the Department such as recent arrests, accolades to Officers, activity to correct problems voiced at our meetings and statistics from number of parking tickets to types and number of arrests for the past month.

Our current Summit Neighborhood Watch Group has its origin on November 2006. It was originally called “Neighborhood Action Group” (NAG). It was an offshoot of the Weed and Seed Grant Program from the Government. The group started with 30 members, and consistently had 15 to 20 attending every meeting. They developed the saying “Together we can beat crime and gangs and make Summit a better place for our families and children to live!” On October 20, 2011, a name change to a more recognizable “Summit Neighborhood Watch Group” was approved. Today we have 72 members and an average of 19 residents and friends at our monthly meetings.
