The Summit Police Department is a member agency of the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team (S.M.A.R.T.). Below is a short description about this team and the expertise they bring when there is a major accident in our jurisdiction. Much like the other task force units we participate in, when called upon our officer assigned to the team also responds to assist when needed.

S.M.A.R.T.

A multi-agency accident investigation team made up of accident investigators from surrounding suburban agencies. In crash reconstruction, the investigator examines and reviews the information that was collected at the crash scene, from the involved vehicles to the human element, and other relevant information. The re-constructionist then provides an interpretation of the evidence to indicate how the crash likely occurred. This group of accident investigators assists the Richton Park Police Department with investigating and reconstructing major accidents.
