on July 10, 2017, two people lost their lives as a result of a car crash. That car crash was caused intentionally by another. The vehicle that crashed was occupied by two couples; the couple that were seated in the back seat passed away as a result of their injuries. They were identified as Summit residents, Michael Lumino, 21 years old and Stepanie Gallegos, 34 years old. The other two occupants, Chicago residents, suffered serious injuries that left them in critical condition but thankfully survived the wreck. A subsequent investigation conducted by the summit police department lead to the arrest and prosecution of Jesse Castillo of Chicago. The case was heard in the Cook County 5th District Court in Bridgeview the week of April 24, 2023. On April 28, 2023, a jury of his peers found Jesse Castillo guilty of two counts of First-Degree Murder among other charges. He will reappear before the court in the summer for sentencing.
