Summit Police Officers assigned to the South Suburban Emergency Response Team (SSERT) assisted the Chicago Police Department with safeguarding the Chicago Marathon. SSERT a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team was one of many specialized units that were on hand to provide emergency and tactical services to safeguard the runners and many visitors of the event. SSERT is one of several task forces that the Summit Police Department is a member of that provide a resource to serve the people of the Village of Summit.
