The Citizens Police Academy is a dynamic program designed to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community it serves. Through interactive workshops, informative lectures, and hands-on activities, participants gain a deeper understanding of police operations, procedures, and the challenges faced by officers in their daily duties. This initiative promotes a collaborative relationship between citizens and law enforcement, empowering individuals with knowledge to enhance public safety and build stronger, safer communities. The academy provides a unique opportunity for civilians to engage directly with law enforcement professionals, fostering understanding and cooperation. 

Citizens will experience abbreviated versions of training our officers go through, to include:

• Policing tactics
• Crime scene processing and evidence collection
• SWAT team and K9 Unit demonstrations
• Emergency Vehicle operations
• Investigative procedures, including officer discretion relating to arrests
• Self-defense / firearm safety
• Traffic laws, accident investigation and impaired driving enforcement
• Technology overview
• Ride-a-long with a patrol officer

Applications for this free program are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Due to the high volume of applicants, we require participants to attend at least 80% of classes. Additionally, participants must complete a criminal history check and sign a waiver of liability prior to the first night. You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Dates for the 2026 CPA Class will be announced in January.

Citizens Police Academy Goal 

The academy’s goal is to build partnerships between Cherry Hills Village residents and the officers who serve and protect them through a series of classes instructed by police officers.
