Ride Along Form

Eligibility:

  • The Ride-Along Program is available to Paradise Valley residents, employment candidates, Town employees, and immediate family members of employees ONLY. 

Scheduling Information:

  • Requests typically require two (2) business days to process. 
  • The Department reserves the right to approve or deny any request with or without cause. 
  • Ride-alongs are limited to a maximum of two (2) hours
  • If unable to attend a scheduled ride-along, notify Dispatch at 480-948-7410 as soon as possible. 

Participant Rules and Expectations:

  1. Appropriate attire is required: collared shirt, blouse, or jacket; slacks; and closed-toe shoes. Sandals, shorts, tank tops, ripped clothing, offensive or inappropriate messaging, hats, or ball caps are not permitted. 
  2. All applicants are subject to a criminal history check prior to approval. Participants must be at least 16 years of age
  3. Applicants under 18 years of age must complete the Minor Ride-Along Request and have a parent or guardian sign the waiver in the presence of an officer. 
  4. Participants must comply with all instructions given by the assigned officer at all times. 
  5. Participants shall not exit the patrol vehicle at any scene without the officer’s permission. 
  6. Participants shall not participate in police activity unless directed by the officer. 
  7. Participants shall not communicate with suspects, prisoners, witnesses, or other involved parties unless instructed. 
  8. Participants shall not interfere with the officer’s duties. Questions are encouraged at appropriate times. 
  9. Audio or video recording devices are prohibited unless prior approval is granted by the Chief of Police. 
  10. Weapons are not permitted unless the participant is an AZPOST-certified peace officer and prior approval has been granted. 
  11. A signed waiver of liability is required. No exceptions. 
  12. Participants are responsible for their own meals or expenses during breaks.

Active law enforcement officer applicants are not subject to the standard ride-along duration limit.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK
In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Paradise Valley Police Department Ride-Along Program and to ride as a passenger in a vehicle owned or operated by the Town of Paradise Valley, I hereby release, waive, and agree not to hold liable the Town of Paradise Valley, its officers, employees, agents, or representatives from any and all claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to any injury, damage, loss, or death that may occur during my participation, regardless of cause. I understand that participating in a police ride-along involves inherent risks, including exposure to potentially dangerous situations. I voluntarily assume all such risks. This waiver is binding upon me, my heirs, assigns, and personal representatives. By signing below, I acknowledge that I have received, read, and understand the Paradise Valley Police Department Ride-Along Program Guidelines and Participant Instructions. I agree to comply with all requirements, restrictions, and instructions provided by the Department and the assigned officer during the ride-along.
