Paradise Valley, Arizona — A Paradise Valley Police Officer is being credited with saving the life of a construction worker after a serious industrial accident at the end of September. Officer Dan Arvidson was the first to arrive after a worker suffered a severe arm injury caused by a grinder saw, resulting in a cut to his brachial artery and rapid, life-threatening blood loss.
Just four weeks earlier, Paradise Valley Police Department became the first and only law enforcement agency in Arizona to issue TraumaGel to every sworn officer. TraumaGel is a specialized hemostatic gel designed to control heavy bleeding in areas where a tourniquet cannot be used. Prior to deployment, all PVPD officers completed hands-on training and were individually equipped with it as part of the department’s continued effort to expand lifesaving medical capabilities.
Upon arrival, Officer Arvidson recognized the severity of the injury and immediately applied TraumaGel. The gel quickly controlled the arterial bleeding and stabilized the victim until paramedics took over advanced care. Medical personnel later confirmed that the rapid application of TraumaGel played a decisive role in preventing further blood loss.
This incident underscores the importance of equipping first responders with advanced medical tools and ensuring they receive meaningful, practical training. PVPD will continue evaluating new medical technology and strengthening its emergency response readiness. As the first agency in Arizona to deploy TraumaGel department-wide, PVPD remains committed to giving its officers every resource possible for critical incidents where seconds matter.
