The North Charleston Police Department was formed in 1972 with 19 Police Officers, and five support personnel. Today, the department employs over 315 sworn officers and 85 civilian employees who proudly serve a growing population of approximately 121,000 that swells to over 200,000 during the daytime hours accommodating workers, visitors, tourists and shoppers.
The North Charleston Police Department’s mission is to provide professional public safety services while working in partnership with the citizens of North Charleston to identify, prevent and solve the problems of crime, social disorder and neighborhood decay, thereby improving the quality of life in our community.
The City of North Charleston is divided into nine zones patrolled 24 hours per day.
The Police Department administrative offices are located at North Charleston City Hall. The Police Department is comprised of three Patrol Bureaus. ALWAYS call 911 for emergencies.
