On August 19, 2026, just before 10:00 AM, Newberry Township Police received a call for shots fired in the area of the Conewago Inn (3480 York Haven Rd., Newberry Township). 

A “shelter in place” request was issued to ensure the safety of residents in the immediate area while officers searched for any actors. A comprehensive search of the area was conducted by officers, K-9 units and air resources from the following agencies:

Newberry Township Police Department
York County Regional Police Department
Northern York County Regional Police Department 
Pennsylvania State Police – Aviation Unit 
York County Sherrif’s Department 
York County Office of Emergency Management 

After police determined there was no immediate danger, the request was lifted and communicated to people in the area via mobile messaging. 
Newberry Township Police have taken one actor into custody and criminal charges are currently pending. 

This incident remains under active investigation by the Newberry Township Police Department. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 717-938-2608. 

The department has no reason to believe that there is any current danger to the public as a result of this incident. Additionally, there are no known injuries as a result of this incident.
