July 1, 2022, @ 10:27 AM NLCRPD Officers responded to the report of an accident that occurred in the 700 block of Hopeland Road near Hanna Drive in Clay Township. A vehicle, operated by a 14-year-old juvenile, had exited the roadway, and struck the side of an unoccupied garage. The vehicle, a 2000 Chrysler sedan, crashed through the side of the cinder-block wall of the garage, penetrated the opposing interior wall, and came to rest inside the garage.
The investigation revealed that the juvenile's mother Laurellyn SCHROM of Lititz, also determined to be the vehicle owner and a passenger of the vehicle at the time of the crash, had allowed her son to operate the vehicle. The occupants sustained minor injuries and were evaluated on scene by EMS. Both were taken by private vehicle to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Summary charges associated with operating a vehicle unlicensed, permitting the violation, and actions that resulted in the crash are pending.
The NLCRPD was assisted on scene by both the Durlach and Brickerville Fire Companies.
UPDATE: 07.15.2022 Post investigation determined that the owner of the vehicle, Laurellyn SCHROM, was not involved in the incident . Family member Bethany SCHROM of Lititz, was the passenger of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
