Good News! Life has gotten simpler. . .
If you need to provide verification of filing a report with the NLCRPD for insurance, civil matters, divorce matters, custodial disputes, or the wide array of other proof of reporting for legal process, the NLCRPD has simplified this process.
The most frequent customer service-based information request filed with the NLCRPD is a simple request for report copies as proof of a report being filed with law enforcement. In many cases this results in the filing of an OOR/RTK request that may be denied simply because of the incident classification. Since the OOR/RTK law prohibits the NLCRPD from any inquiry as to the purpose of the request, it may result in a denial as an unintended consequence to the requesting party.
Thanks to a collaborative effort between the NCRPD and the Crimewatch staff this can now be accomplished by filling out a request for a Verification of Reporting, located on the FORMS drop down tab at NLCRPD. Simply complete and submit this request electronically. The NLCRPD will respond with the required information for fulfillment of the customer request and provide the necessary and allowable information that should meet the requirements of the customer request. This verification response by the NLCRPD will contain only essential and limited information providing the customer with the incident date, time, incident number, incident classification, and authentication of NLCRPD reporting.
The NLCRPD expectation is a speedy response by the agency for these easy to process increases the customer service aspect and produces the added benefit of reduction or elimination of confusion associated with potential denials of a reporting response filed under the RTK/OOR act.
This feature between NLCRPD and Crimewatch is designed to meet customer service demands and strictly maintain agency transparency and adherence to OOR / RTK requirements.
