Narrative: NLCRPD was dispatched to contact a caller in regards to an identity theft. NLCRPD patrol contacted the reporting party who stated she was contacted by the IRS in regards to her social security number being found on a second tax filing for 2019. Reporting party had received a second tax return in the mail after already receiving her initial return.
Through contact with the IRS, it was determined a person was using her social security number for employment in the Philadelphia area and the IRS would be investigating. Reporting party further advised the IRS was unable to provide any further information to her in regards to the person using her social security number, however, IRS advised that the reporting party should file a police report with her local police department and freeze her credit.
Reporting party was advised that the NLCRPD would document the stated event in police reporting. The NLCRPD also further notified the reporting party that a best practice would dictate that she should monitor her credit and all individual and joint financial accounts for expanded fraudulent activity since her identity was compromised .
