The reporting party stated at 10:30 hours on 10/27/22, she received a phone call from an unknown number. The male on the other end stated that he was with the US Border Patrol and that her name was associated with drug smuggling and approximately $90,000 of drug money. The unidentified male advised the party that she could come down to Texas and have a court hearing. Or, she could go to her local bank, withdraw all the money from her checking and savings account, and go to a bitcoin machine and send the bitcoin to the “US Border Patrol”. The reporting party opted to not travel to Texas and withdrew all the money in both her savings and checking account down to the minimum allowed to have the accounts remain open. This totaled $5,700.00. She then went to a bitcoin machine and transferred the cash to bitcoin and then sent the bitcoin to the unknown individual. The victim confirmed that she did not provide any bank account information or her social security number to the unknown individual. She did however send a photo of her license.
