On 12/7/21 the Columbia Borough Police Department was notified by a resident, that he had received a phone call from a male with a heavy middle eastern accent stating that he was from the man's bank and that he needed to purchase $1,500 in gift cards and provide the code on the back to the caller.  The male on the phone kept talking in circles in order to confuse the victim then told him he needed to purchase gift certificates and give him the serial number on the back.  He asked the victim to leave the line open while he drove to purchase the gift certificates.  The call came from 704-386-6171 (Charlotte, NC). 

PLEASE NOTE THAT ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU ASKING YOU TO PURCHASE GIFT CARDS IS A SCAM.  ALWAYS BE SURE TO HANG UP AND CALL THE BUSINESS/ORGANIZATION USING THE PHONE NUMBER ONLINE OR IN THE PHONE BOOK TO VERIFY THAT THEY ARE WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE AND THAT THEY ACTUALLY CALLED YOU.
