DISTRACTED DRIVING - Enforcement Update

🚨 New Distracted Driving Enforcement Starts June 6, 2026 🚨

Pennsylvania’s “Paul Miller’s Law” is now fully enforceable.  Under 75 Pa. C.S. § 3316.1, it is illegal to use an interactive mobile device while driving (whether moving or stopped in traffic).

Phased Enforcement Timeline

  • June 5, 2025 – June 5, 2026 (Warning Period):
    • Officers were authorized to stop motorists for violations.
    • Only written warnings could be issued during this period.
  • Effective June 6, 2026 (Full Enforcement):
    • Officers are now authorized to issue citations for violations.
    • Violation is a summary offense
    • Penalty for the violation is a $50 fine + costs
