On January 22, 2023, at 4:13am, Saugerties Police responded to a 911 call of a one car rollover motor vehicle crash involving a tree on Glasco Turnpike, in the area of Highbank Road in the Town of Saugerties. Investigating officers, established that 22-year-old Brandon G Norton of Shokan was operating a 1998 Honda Civic on Glasco Turnpike, when Norton failed to negotiate a crest on the roadway as a result of excessive speed. As a result, Norton’s vehicle went off the roadway, rolling over several times before striking a tree, where his vehicle came to final rest. Norton, who was able to self-extricate himself from the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, had sustained multiple injuries during the crash. Norton was treated at the scene by Paramedics from DIAZ Ambulance and firefighters from the Centerville Cedar Grove Fire Department, and subsequently was flown from the scene by Life-Net medivac to Vassar Brothers Memorial Hospital in Poughkeepsie. The investigation by police further established that Norton was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Norton has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, Failure to Keep Right, and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt. Norton is listed in serious but stable condition.
