SCAM ALERT: Phone Scammers Posing as Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office
We want to alert our community (ONCE AGAIN) to a phone scam that has been reported in Crawford County. Scammers are calling residents and falsely claiming to be current or former members of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. They may demand payment for bogus fines, threaten arrest, or request personal information.
What to Know:
• The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call to demand payment over the phone.
• We will NEVER ask for payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or prepaid debit cards.
• Scammers often use caller ID spoofing to make it look like the call is coming from a legitimate number, including our office.
What to Do:
1. Hang Up: If you receive a suspicious call, do not provide any personal or financial information.
2. Verify: Contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 620-724-8274 to confirm the legitimacy of the call.
3. Report It: If you believe you have been targeted by a scam, report the incident to our office and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.ftc.gov/complaint.

• Be cautious of unsolicited calls, especially if they create a sense of urgency or fear.
• NEVER share sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, bank details, or passwords over the phone.
• Spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors to help protect them from falling victim to these scams.
