Identification Division

The Identification Division serves the needs of the Brighton Police Department with technical investigations, evidence gathering, and related records and documentation.

The unit is staffed by one full-time investigator and seven part-time crime scene technicians drawn from the ranks of the Road Patrol.

The identification investigator processes crime scenes; takes photographs and gathers physical evidence; classifies, examines and compares latent fingerprints; fingerprints and photographs arrested persons; provides fingerprinting for civilians seeking various licenses or permits; maintains all photographic, video, digital, and evidence gathering equipment; attends to court-ordered expungements; and is the evidence coordinator between the Police Department and the Monroe County Crime Laboratory.

Relative to this, the ID investigator also serves as the property clerk: receives and secures all incoming property and evidence; organizes periodic public auctions; and maintains all files necessary for the integrity of this vital link between the criminal act and successful prosecution.

Fingerprinting for Civilians

The Brighton Police Department provides fingerprinting for Brighton residents and those persons who work in the Town. Fingerprinting is done at the following times: Mondays, 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm, and Wednesdays, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. The cost is $5.00 cash (exact amount only, please) per fingerprint card. Fingerprint cards must be provided by the individual being fingerprinted. Please call 784-5125 prior to coming in to ensure that there will be fingerprinting done on that day. For more information, please visit our Fingerprinting Services page HERE.
