The NLCRPD employs multiple technology platforms in the investigation of serious or fatal crashes. NLCRPD deploys NLCRPD officers with both crash reconstruction and forensic evidence recovery expertise to these types of investigations. The NLCRPD utilizes Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAV),forensic scanners and Total Stations scene documentation tools to map the crash scenes. This data is then exported to 3D animation applications and other crash related or engineering platforms for analysis and reporting. The NLCRPD is a member of both the Northwest Crash Team and the Northeast Crash Team supported by the Office of the Lancaster County District Attorney. Each Crash Team is composed of specially trained and certified officers from police agencies throughout Lancaster County. The NLCRPD is a member of both teams, having obtained advanced certifications in crash investigation and reconstruction. The Crash Teams are dispatched by request of the investigating police agency for any crash resulting in serious injury or death. The members of the Team are qualified as expert reconstructionist identify the causal factor(s) and critical event chain responsible for the crash.
