Scammers have been spoofing our department's phone number, claiming to be our officers and demanding money from victims, threatening arrest if they don't comply.
Unfortunately, one victim lost a significant amount of money in this scam. We want to emphasize that our department will never ask for payment over the phone for any reason. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact us directly at (717) 432-3317. If we're unavailable, you can reach the dispatch center at (717) 854-5571 or call 911. Remember, never send money via gift cards, provide debit/credit card information, or transfer cryptocurrency to unverified individuals. These scammers often target honest people, using tactics like claiming you have a warrant, a family member is in jail and needs bail, or a family member is in the hospital and needs money.
Be cautious, as it's nearly impossible to recover lost money if the scammers are overseas. Share this warning with others to prevent them from becoming victims.
