SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARATION: From 12 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026, to 7 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, a snow emergency will be in effect. As per Township Ordinance, all vehicles must be removed from roadways.
STORM UPDATE: A winter storm is predicted to hit our area late Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, lasting until Monday. It's expected to bring 12-18 inches of snow and extremely cold temperatures with minus degree windchill.
STORM PREPARATIONS: To help you prepare, here are some essential reminders:
- Check your home heating fuel and propane levels to ensure there is enough for several days.
- Stock up on non-perishables food items, as food deliveries may be unavailable.
- Make sure you have a sufficient supply of prescription medications.
- Charge your flashlights and have fresh batteries or candles available in case of power outage.
- Prepare your generator and ensure it is fueled and ready to go. Remember to always use it outside, away from doors and windows.
- Have a gas can and gas available for generator or snowblower refills.
- Avoid any unnecessary travel. This will reduce your chances of being involved in a crash and give the plow trucks time to clear roadways. If you must travel, check 511PA.com or the 511PA app for the latest road and weather conditions. You can also check to see where the plow trucks are in real time and any driving restrictions that are in place.
- Assemble a winter survival kit for your vehicle. Make sure it has a flashlight and batteries, blanket, water, non-perishable snacks, cell phone charger, hat, gloves, shovel, cat litter or sand, medications, items for pets or children, and anything else you think you would need.
- Should you become stranded in a snowstorm, be sure to keep the tailpipe of the vehicle clear, as carbon monoxide can fill a vehicle in minutes and be deadly.
- Call 9-1-1 for any emergencies. Response times may be slower due to weather and road conditions.
STORM CLEAN-UP: With 12-18 inches of snow expected, clean-up will be a significant task. Plan to do it in stages, and don't hesitate to ask for help if needed. Dress warmly, as temperatures will be extremely cold, and frostbite can occur quickly. Remember not to shovel, snow blow, or plow snow onto the roadway, as it's a violation of Township Ordinance and can cause hazards.
As always Bushkill Township - be smart and stay safe!
