LANSDALE BOROUGH- Parking near a fire hydrant is about more than simply not blocking the hydrant itself.
Under Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. § 3353), vehicles are prohibited from parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. This is a statewide standard that applies unless otherwise posted or directed.
The reason for this requirement is safety and response time. In an emergency, fire crews need immediate access to a reliable water source and enough working space to connect equipment quickly and efficiently. That includes clear access from multiple angles—not just the hydrant cap.
Even if a vehicle is not directly in front of the hydrant, parking too close can still slow down operations or force additional maneuvering during a critical response.
This is one of the most important parking restrictions on any roadway because it protects the ability of first responders to act without delay when every second matters.
