Well, it's that time of year again... the start of school, which is Monday, August 31st for Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg!! I know that brings relief to many parents who are ready for the kids to start back to school. As we start to get into a new schedule, let us not forget about school safety.
School bus safety:
Failing to stop for a school bus with red flashing lights will result in a $250 fine, 60-day driver license suspension, and 5-points on your driving record.
Failing to stop for a school bus with a side stop signal arm (stop sign) will result in a $300 fine.
School bus violations do not need to be observed by police for drivers to receive a ticket. Many school districts have now transitioned to the side stop signal arm being equipped with video cameras to record violators. All school bus violations reported to police are investigated.
Pedestrian safety:
Please watch for children walking to school, and for the crossing guards/school security/police officers assisting with traffic control.
The Stroud Area Regional Police want to welcome students back to school and remind drivers that with every school year, SAFETY is paramount. When traveling through school zones, keep your focus 100% on driving and drive carefully.
