Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash Route 222 N at MM 36.0 

On Saturday July 9th at 1:28PM the West Earl Township Police Department was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Crash with ejection on Route 222 N near Mile Marker 36. It was reported to Lancaster County Communications Center that one vehicle had flipped and the occupant was ejected from the vehicle.  

On scene investigation determined that three vehicles were involved in the accident. It was reported that a 2019 Ford Pickup truck had been traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane of Route 222 North and had struck a 2015 Nissan Murano in the rear end. The driver of the pickup lost control and then struck a Chrysler 200 that was travelling in the right lane, then exited the roadway, and flipped several times ejecting the driver from the pickup. The driver of the vehicle, Edwin Hayes (60 yoa) from Ephrata was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The West Earl Fire Department, Rothsville EMS, New Holland Ambulance, and Lanco Hazmat assisted at the scene.
