Harrisburg, PA -On October 26th, 2023, the West Earl Township Police Department was awarded a Certificate of Law Enforcement Accreditation after a unanimous vote by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) at a ceremony held in Harrisburg.
In July of this year a team of assessors from the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Commission spent two days conducting an onsite assessment of the agency to ensure our compliance with PLEAC Standards and Best practices in Law Enforcement. The assessment team evaluated every aspect of our agency to include but not limited to our policies, procedures, training, facilities, equipment and conducted ride-a-longs with officers of the department. After their assessment they recommended that the West Earl Township Police Department be recognized as an accredited law enforcement agency. We are extremely proud to now be one of only 174 agencies in the Commonwealth accredited by PLEAC representing about 12% of Pennsylvania Law Enforcement agencies. “I’m extremely proud of what our agency has accomplished in such a short period of time” Chief Eric Higgins said. “Our agency has met all the standards and best practices in policing today. The residents of Akron and West Earl can take pride that their police department represents the very best in Pennsylvania law enforcement”.
The West Earl Board of Supervisors invites the public to a special meeting on November 8th at 6:00 PM at the West Earl Township Municipal Building. At this meeting members of the Pennsylvania Law Accreditation Enforcement Commission will recognize the police department for our accomplishment. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
