West Earl Township Police Announce Arrest in Akron Vehicle Theft Investigation
Akron, PA — An Akron Borough resident was arrested by the West Earl Township Police Department following an investigation into a series of thefts from vehicles and stolen vehicles in the Akron area.
On the morning of February 12, 2026, officers responded to multiple reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles in and around Akron Borough. Among the items stolen were two handguns and an Acer laptop computer.
On February 18, 2026, the victim of the stolen laptop contacted police after identifying what he believed to be his device listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The seller was identified as Naiym Darnel Poles, an Akron resident. Further investigation revealed Poles had a prior history of thefts from unlocked vehicles and was out on bail for similar charges in East Lampeter Township stemming from November 2025.
On March 19, 2026, police received a report of a 2021 Kia K5 stolen from Akron Borough, which contained a handgun at the time of the theft. The following day, March 20, 2026, officers received a report of another stolen vehicle, a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, which was recovered in East Lampeter Township prior to the owner realizing it had been taken.
Detectives obtained search warrants for a residence in East Lampeter Township and Poles residence in Akron. During the execution of the search warrant at the Akron residence officers recovered stolen items and 240 grams of marijuana.
As a result of the investigation, Detectives Heather Halstead and Justin Cruce charged Naiym Darnel Poles with the following offenses:
• (5) Counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking (F3)
• (2) Counts of Criminal Attempt Theft by unlawful taking (F3)
• (5) Counts of Theft from a motor vehicle (M2)
• (1) Count of Theft by Unlawful Taking (M1)
• (1) Count of Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License (F3)
• (1) Count of Persons Not to Possess Firearms (F2)
• (1) Count of Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (F)
• (1) Count of Possession of marijuana (M)
• (1) Count of Possession of drug paraphernalia (M)
• (1) Count Theft from motor vehicle (M3)
• (1) Count Criminal Attempt Theft from motor vehicle (M3)
Additionally, a 17-year-old juvenile male will be charged with:
• Two counts of Receiving Stolen Property
• Possession of Firearms by a Minor (M1)
• Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License (F3)
On March 24th Poles was arrested on the strength of the warrant by the East Lampeter Police Department.
Naiym Poles was arraigned by Judge Jonathan Heisse and was committed to the Lancaster County Prison on $125,000 bail.
The West Earl Township Police Department reminds residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables, including firearms, to help prevent crimes of opportunity.
The public and media are reminded that all charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
