DUI Crash Related

West Earl Township, Pa – An West Earl man has been arrested for driving under the influence alcohol after he was involved in a single vehicle crash.

On November 7, 2021 at 7:55AM, WEPD was dispatched for a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Oregon Pike and Newport Road. It was reported that the vehicle jumped a curb and was blocking the roadway.

Officers made contact with the driver who was identified as Lee Ackerman (40YOA). Ackerman was observed having signs of impairment when Officers were trying to gather his information. Officers had Ackerman complete field sobriety tests to determine if Ackerman was capable of safe driving. Ackerman was unable to complete the sobriety tests as instructed and was placed under arrest for DUI.

Ackerman was transported back to WEPD’s station from processing and to provide breath samples. While Ackerman was being processed, Officer learned that Ackerman was babysitting family members prior to leaving the residence. Ackerman stated he drove to Sheetz for cigarettes, leaving young family member by themselves.

Officer Jacob Waltz filed the following charges against Ackerman, (2) count Endangering the Welfare of a Children, (1) count of DUI-General Impairment (M), (1) count of DUI – Highest Rate (M), and (1) count of Carless Driving (S)

The public and media are reminded that all criminal charges are merely accusations and all subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
