The Strasburg Borough Police Department has become aware of a phone scam which has targeted several residents in our community.  This scam begins the phone call with an artificial, robotic sounding voice “advising you” your social security number has been linked to fraudulent activity.  It then requests that you “press 1 to speak with a police officer”.  THIS IS A SCAM!  Do not press 1, do not speak with ANYONE.  If you receive a voicemail from these miscreants, do not call back!

This serves as a reminder to be vigilant against all phone scams.  Please review the bellow guidance to help safeguard you, your credit and your hard-earned money from these wretches.

• DO NOT PICK UP!  When you receive phone calls from numbers you do not know, ignore the call or send it to voicemail.  Legitimate callers will leave you a voicemail.  Answering these calls make you a prime target for repeated attempts.
• NEVER provide personal information or payment information over the phone to unverified callers.
• Be aware of common scams.  These include “Bank Fraud Alerts” requesting personal information, “government/law enforcement agents” demanding immediate action under threat of arrest, debt relief or repair and offers that seem to good to be true (i.e. winning contests you did not sign up for, free vacations, etc.).
• Suspected phone scams should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftc.gov/
