TRAFFIC DETAIL TAKES UNSAFE TRUCKS AND DRIVERS OFF THE ROAD

East Cocalico Township - On 11/4/2020, officers from several agencies assisted the East Cocalico Township PD in conducting a traffic detail, on Col. Howard Blvd,  focused on Commercial Vehicle and Commercial Driver Safety. A total of 43 commercial vehicles were flagged in for inspection. 6 trucks and 2 drivers had violations so serious, that they were declared “out of service” and prohibited from continuing operation. A specialized team of officers from East Cocalico, Cumru, Exeter, South Heidelberg, Muhlenberg, Shillington, Wyomissing, and the City of Reading assisted on this detail. 

A summary of the major violations found included:

• 1 truck that had several tires that were shredding while driving
• 2 trucks with defective brakes
• 1 bulldozer not secured
• 1 large “pod” container not secured
• 1 company discovered operating under a Federal Out of Service Order for a history of prior safety violations
• 1 driver exceeding his allowable hours
• 1 driver with counterfeit credentials
