The Bucks County Sheriff's Office is proud to present its dedicated K9 Unit, a specialized team integral to our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Bucks County. Our highly trained K9 teams are deployed in critical law enforcement functions, including explosive detection, patrol operations, tracking, and evidence recovery.
The establishment of our K9 Unit is underscored by a significant act of compassion and collaboration. In April 2022, 31 working dogs were rescued from an animal cruelty situation in Connecticut. Following intervention by The Hometown Foundation, which provided essential medical care and support, the Bucks County Sheriff's Office was honored to adopt two of these resilient animals, K9 Zeke and K9 Emma, in September 2022. This adoption reflects our dedication to providing these animals with a supportive working environment, under the guidance of experienced handlers, Deputies Christina Brewerton and Dale Walton.
"The adoption of Emma and Zeke, facilitated by The Hometown Foundation, marked the inception of the Bucks County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit in September 2022," states Deputy Walton, Handler of K9 Emma. "Deputies Brewerton and I, along with our families, embraced this assignment with enthusiasm, recognizing the immediate value these K9s would bring to our agency and the community."
K9 Emma, a Belgian Malinois born in December 2020, is a vital asset specializing in explosive detection and patrol duties. The team of K9 Emma and Deputy Walton underwent rigorous training with the Philadelphia Police Department, achieving certification in explosive detection in April 2023. K9 Emma is proficient in detecting 27 distinct odors associated with explosive devices and has been successfully deployed in response to numerous bomb threats within Bucks County.
K9 Zeke, a Labrador Retriever, is a highly capable member of our K9 Unit, specializing in explosive detection, tracking, and evidence recovery. K9 Zeke and Deputy Brewerton completed scent school with the Philadelphia Police in April 2023, followed by a tracking and evidence recovery course at Penn Vet in August 2023. This dual-certified team has been actively deployed to address bomb threats and is available for missing person searches and evidence recovery operations throughout the county.
“K9 Zeke has demonstrated exceptional aptitude in his training and deployments, proving to be a valuable resource for the Bucks County Sheriff's Office,” says Deputy Brewerton.
The Bucks County Sheriff’s Office K9 team is strategically positioned to deploy countywide, providing specialized support in criminal tracking, article searches, and responses to threats against community safety.
The Bucks County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit is committed to serving the residents of Bucks County with professionalism and dedication for years to come, enhancing the safety and security of our community.
