On January 31, 2017, the Richland Township Police Department received accredited status with a unanimous vote of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. Richland Township joins about 110 other jurisdictions that have attained this status since the inception of the program in 2001.

On March 16, 2020, the Richland Township Police Department was informed that the department had successfully completed the process to remain accredited. This reaccredited process takes place every three years.
