As the weather improves, we’re seeing more E-bikes on our roads and trails. This is a reminder to all residents to understand and follow Pennsylvania’s E-bike laws for everyone’s safety.
Pennsylvania defines E-bikes as a pedalcycle with electric assist capped at 20mph on motor power and designates that operators must be 16+. Riders must follow the same rules of the road as traditional bicycles, including obeying traffic signals and signs.
Please be mindful:
• Ride in the same direction as traffic
• Yield to pedestrians
• Use proper lighting when riding at night
• Wear a helmet (required for riders under 12, strongly encouraged for all)
Parents — please ensure your children are riding age-appropriate E-bikes and understand the rules before heading out.
We’ve attached official resources below outlining Pennsylvania’s E-bike laws in detail. Take a moment to review and stay safe.
