We would love it if someone in Cortez won a mega-prize, but we also want to protect you from scammers who try to take advantage of your excitement.

One of our community members received a call from someone claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House. They told her that she had won money and that she needed to call a number to claim it. We all dream of this call, but this is likely a scam.

Real prize organizations will not ask for your bank account, Social Security number, or other personal details to release winnings over the phone. If you receive a call like this, take a moment to think before sharing any information.
