Colorado State Patrol Trooper Steven King is heading to the Front Range after years of service in our community. From his start at the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office to his time with the Cortez Police Department and Colorado State Patrol, Trooper King has been a steady force in keeping us safe.

This afternoon, local law enforcement gathered to hear him share stories from his time in service. In January 2025, Trooper King was awarded the Meritorious Conduct Pin and Medal by the Cortez Police Department for showing “extraordinary bravery” during the incident when Sgt. Michael Moran was fatally shot in November 2023.

We appreciate his commitment to public safety and wish him all the best in this next chapter.
