The Cortez Police Department has received several reports in the last few weeks of older community members losing thousands of dollars to scams. Anyone can fall for a scam, but parents, grandparents, and older adults are often targeted. 

Please take a moment to check in with family members who may be at risk. Talk with them about any scam messages you get, remind them not to click unknown links, and to double‑check who a message is really from. If something seems suspicious, they should call their bank or reach out to local law enforcement, whether they live in Cortez or somewhere else.
