The Cortez Police Department is excited to bring back the 2026 Citizens Academy this fall! Spend six Thursday nights exploring what really happens behind the badge—with hands-on learning, eye-opening demonstrations, and plenty of “Wow, I had no idea!” moments.

Make it a date night, come with your bestie, invite a coworker, or gather your crew for a unique Thursday night experience. 
Each week features a different area of police work, including:
• Police policy and report writing
• Crime scene processing
• Arrest control
• Drug activity awareness
• Real-life body cam videos
• Field sobriety demonstrations
• A Dispatch Call Center tour
• Training with less-lethal tools, including tasers
Every class includes one hour in the classroom and one hour of hands-on activities—always based on your comfort level. You’ll also get the chance to meet our officers and hear their stories.
This academy is a special opportunity to see how your local police department operates and connect with the people who serve our community.
