After 20 years and 4 months of dedicated service, the Cortez Police Department is bidding a fond farewell to one of its most cherished officers. Known for his attention to detail (he once wrote an 11-page police report!) and his dislike of mustard, this long-time Cortez resident and Montezuma-Cortez graduate has decided it’s time to hang up his badge.
Despite his many accomplishments and the deep respect he has earned from his law enforcement family and the community, our retiring officer has made one thing clear: he doesn’t want any recognition or honors. So, we’re respecting his wishes… sort of.
Our soon-to-be-retired Lieutenant has been a cornerstone of the Cortez Police Department. His commitment to investigations in the community has been invaluable. After studying criminal justice, he started with the Cortez Police Department on March 17, 2004. After a time in patrol, he moved into the detective's division and was promoted to Detective Lieutenant in February 2015.
Beyond his professional achievements, our officer is known for his 'by-the-book' work ethic. He spent about eight months at the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office before he began his career at CPD. He has a dislike for the smell of mustard and the smell of decomposition and in reality - who doesn't? He was a baseball scholarship winner and enjoys time with his wife and daughters.
While he may not want any fanfare, we can’t help but express our gratitude. Thank you for your years of service, your unwavering dedication, and for making Cortez a better place. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!
