We would like for the community to join us in celebrating the promotion of Officer Shane Fletcher to Detective. Shane started with the Cortez Police Department in June of 2018 and then attended the Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy that same year. He's trained as a Field Training Officer and has been working with the most recent law enforcement academy graduate, Officer Bourdon.
"I look forward to expanding my investigative skills and being an asset to the department."
Shane says that his favorite part of being on patrol is the bond he's created with the patrolmen, dispatchers, and the thrill of the chase. "I will miss being a part of the ups and downs patrol brings. I have had the best days working alongside this group, and also one of the worst days of my life with them (Sgt. Michael Morans death). But we all shared those times together and we were able to lean on each other. I will never forget those dark days and the sunny ones too, and I will miss that bond for the next few years while I am in the detectives division."
Shane's grandfather, John Glazner, was the sheriff of Montezuma County from 1979-1986 and has been his inspiration. "I idolized what he accomplished in his law enforcement career. Although he is not here anymore, he will always be with me to guide me through whatever comes along."
Detective Fletcher comments that his career with the Cortez Police Department (patrol) has been rewarding and that he's excited to start a new chapter.
