When something happens in our community, the information you share with 911 helps first responders act quickly and efficiently. The REDDI (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) report yesterday, which came in less than one second before the first reports of the fatal traffic accident, was an important call that immediately sent officers in that direction. Your willingness to speak up truly matters.
Please call or text 911 whenever you can safely do so.
Even small pieces of information can be valuable. Just remember to keep yourself safe first. If you are driving, do not text. Pull over or wait until you can share information without putting yourself or others at risk.
Some local restaurants have even asked customers who appear to be impaired to pull ahead to the next window, giving staff time to contact law enforcement. This simple action can allow an officer to respond and may help prevent a tragedy.
Yesterday, our community showed tremendous heart. Many of you stepped forward to help during the tragic motorcycle crash. Your efforts and your compassion matter. One life lost is one too many.
As we move forward, our department remains committed to Vision Zero, the goal of zero fatalities and serious injuries. We are also dedicated to Safe Streets for All, supporting safer travel for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists in Cortez. This is a community effort, and every bit of help brings us closer to that goal.
