Update 7/24/24 - The woman in the security photo has been identified as Jennifer Izad who resides in Montana.  A warrant has been issued for her arrest for Theft. 

Update 7/10/24 - The photo of customers shopping with the suspect has been removed.  They did not have knowledge of the theft.  The suspect is not from Cortez, has returned to her home state has been contacted by law enforcement about the return of the money.

On 07/03/24, Officer Giacchino responded to Safeway for money stolen from a wallet. The victim indicated that she had gone inside the store and when she tried to pay, she realized that the wallet was missing.  

She went back to check the vehicle, where she was approached by a woman who said she found her wallet and turned it into the store.  She was overjoyed and ran into the store only to find that the large sum of money from a recently cashed social security check was missing from her wallet.  

The Safeway service desk indicated to Officer Giacchino that the female dropped the wallet off with little explanation and then left suddenly. If you can identify the people in the photos, please contact dispatch - 970-565-8441 or utilize the Submit A Tip action on the Crimewatch website and mobile app.
