KNOW THE LAW: When do you have to stop for a school bus in PA?
With school back in session, we want to make sure all drivers know the rules of the road, especially at Route 202 (Lower York Road) and Shire Drive. Whether you must stop for a school bus depends entirely on how the road is divided.
Here is a quick breakdown to keep our students safe and keep your license active:
NO Physical Divider (Paint Only / Center Turn Lane)
If you are on a multi-lane road with NO physical barrier—even if it has a center turning lane, ALL traffic in ALL directions must stop at least 10 feet away from the bus.
The Penalties are Steep:
Meeting or overtaking a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended is an automatic 60-day license suspension, a hefty fine, and 5 points on your driving record.
Let's work together to keep our kids safe. When the red lights flash, you stop!
