The Pike County District Attorney’s Office is proud to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness month by donating $5,000 to Victims Intervention Program of Pike and Wayne Counties to support the ongoing efforts for services, resources and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence.
“Our office is committed to supporting survivors of domestic violence. This donation is one way we can help support the important work being done by Victims Intervention Program and the vital services they provide to victims and their families here in Pike County.” Said District Attorney, Raymond Tonkin
These funds come from a fee under the Pennsylvania Crime Victims Act and are not tax payer funds.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Every day, advocates and local domestic violence programs are there to help.
“We are incredibly grateful to the District Attorney’s Office for this generous $5,000 donation and for their continued commitment to supporting victims and survivors in our community. This contribution helps Victims’ Intervention Program continue providing critical, confidential services to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of trauma. Partnerships like this remind survivors that they are not alone and that our community stands behind them. We appreciate the District Attorney’s support and their investment in the safety, healing, and well-being of the individuals and families we serve.”
Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic background. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the District Attorney’s Office encourages community members to learn the warning signs, support those who may be experiencing abuse, and share information about available resources. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is also a time to honor the strength and resilience of survivors while remembering those whose lives have been lost to violence.
