The Cortez Police Department is proud to announce that Sgt. Vance Carver has successfully completed DRE School and is now officially certified as a Drug Recognition Expert. Sgt. Carver also earned the Glenn Davis Top Student Award, a solid reflection of the time he put in and the strong work he delivered throughout the process. Only a small percentage of law enforcement officers in Colorado hold this certification, and Sgt. Carver now joins that select group.
 

With his training and field certifications now complete, Sgt. Carver will provide advanced support on DUI cases involving suspected drug impairment. His expertise will help our officers distinguish drug influence from medical conditions and strengthen drug impaired driving investigations for our department and the surrounding area.
 

This achievement follows 16 hours of DEC Preliminary School, 56 hours of DRE School, and field certifications in San Francisco that included 12 drug evaluations. The DRE Program is governed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and CDOT and is recognized nationwide for its role in identifying and prosecuting drug impaired drivers.
