On May 8, 2026, around 6:00 p.m., Officer Zachary Crills while on patrol in the area of West Main Street and Shirk Road in New Holland Borough noticed a Chrysler Town and Country with an expired Pennsylvania registration. Upon stopping the vehicle, he detected a odor of burnt marjiuana coming from inside the vehicle. Officer Crills then checked the driver, Phillip Hayhurst, for a valid license, discovering it was suspended and that Hayhurst had an outstanding criminal warrant from Dauphin County. The officer proceeded to evaluate Hayhurst for impairment, including an assessment by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
Based on the (DRE) expert's findings, it was recommended that Hayhurst undergo a blood test due to suspicions of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Pending the results of the toxicology report, Phillip Hayhurst will be charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol or a Controlled Substance and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Officer Zachary Crills will file the charges before District Judge Jonathan Heisse.
