After 35 years of dedicated service to the residents of Dallas Township, Chief of Police Douglas Higgins has officially retired from the Dallas Township Police Department.
Chief Higgins first pinned on a Dallas Township Police badge in 1991 as a patrol officer, beginning a career devoted to protecting and serving the same community he would one day lead. Over the decades that followed, he rose through the ranks of the department, serving as Sergeant, Assistant Chief, and ultimately Chief of Police, a position he held for the past seven years.
Throughout his career, Chief Higgins carried forward the legacy of the leaders who came before him while continuing to guide the department forward. His leadership was grounded in a belief that effective policing is rooted in trust, professionalism, and strong relationships with the community.
During his tenure as Chief, community engagement remained a priority for the department. Programs such as National Night Out helped strengthen connections between officers and residents while reinforcing the department’s commitment to maintaining a visible and engaged presence throughout the township.
Chief Higgins announced his intention to retire three years ago, allowing the department time to thoughtfully prepare for the transition in leadership while continuing to serve the community.
In a message to the community, Chief Higgins reflected on the path that led him to a career in law enforcement and the privilege of serving the township he calls home.
“I firmly believe that God places us exactly where we are meant to be, and He led me to a life of service to this community.”
Chief Higgins expressed deep appreciation for the officers he served alongside, the residents who supported the department, and the community that placed its trust in him throughout his career.
The Dallas Township Police Department thanks Chief Higgins for 35 years of dedication, leadership, and service to the community, and wishes him the very best in his retirement.
