Did you know that you can TEXT 911 in an emergency? As we enjoy community events, spend time with family and friends, and go about our daily lives, it's essential to remember that help is just a text away!
When to use Text-to-911: You're in a situation where making a voice call isn't safe or possible. You have a speech or hearing impairment. You're in a remote area with limited voice connectivity. You're a teen in an uncomfortable position where you don't want to seem like a snitch but know that the situation is dangerous. You're in a domestic violence situation and scared to call and say the words out loud.
How to use Text-to-911: Enter the numbers "911" in the "to" field. Hit send! That's it! Dispatchers will respond that you have reached 911 and will ask for your emergency. Type a brief message explaining your emergency and location. Send the message and await a response from a 911 dispatcher.
Remember, calling 911 is always available.
Keep your messages brief and clear. There is an option for the dispatchers to receive video streams from your phone camera - WITH YOUR PERMISSION ONLY.
