Beware of Scam Calls - Trust Your instincts!
We received a report of a woman who received a call from her 'son-in-law' saying that he had been in an accident and that the person he hit was hurt badly and he was taken to jail. The male requested that she send bail money. The woman took her time, thought about it and responded that it didn't really sound like her son-in-law and she asked a few questions of him. He assured her that it was him - saying that his nose was broken and that could be why he sounded differently. He said, 'I'll have the attorney call you" and he hung up.
She then received a call from someone saying that he was an attorney named Michael Rivers confirming the story and again asking her to send bail money.
This woman hung up and called law enforcement. Unfortunately, she was on a landline with no caller ID attached. Please be cautious of calls, texts, emails, and even people visiting your property. Report these events to law enforcement with any information you're able to safely gather - phone numbers, emails, texts, license plates, identifying information about persons, or photos of vehicles.
Dial 911 in the event of an emergency or if an unexpected visitor is on your property. Dial non-emergency dispatch for all other calls - 970-565-8441
