Detective Cannon started as a patrol officer with the City of Cortez in August 2018 after moving here from Durango and attending the 2018 Spring Police Academy. Before that, Kristin lived in Cleveland, Ohio where her family had a history of law enforcement at the Cleveland Heights Police Department.
Cannon is the lead driving instructor at the Police Academy and teaches the Field Training Officer (FTO) introduction and Domestic Violence classes. Kristin is also a part of the Critical Incident Debriefing Team and received a special acknowledgment from the Cortez City Manager and City Council for her life-saving role in a shooting that occurred in September 2023. In her free time, Kristen practices welding and enjoys wandering the desert to observe rare cacti. When asked what she enjoys about Cortez the most, she mentioned the recreational opportunities in the area and the views.
She's passionate about supporting crime victims and their pursuit of justice and will be working on the recruitment of more women into law enforcement.
Detective Cannon is fond of Aristotle's quote "What is the essence of life? To serve others and do good".
