A Declaration of Disaster Emergency has been declared by Mayor James Curry III for the Borough of Middletown, effective immediately.   This Declaration shall remain in effect until the conditions warrant relinquishment of the same.
     Public Safety Director Bill Baldwin would like to remind the community of the inherent dangers associated with floods.  No one should ever attempt to drive through standing water of any type to include flooded streets and parking lots.  According to PennDot, it only takes two feet of fast-moving water to float a car.  Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorist who disregard traffic control devices.
     All individuals should avoid wading through or playing in flooded areas due to the danger of drowning caused by overturned manhole covers and unforeseen floating debris.  We also request that you take a moment to bring all items in from the outside which could float away and add to the danger of floating debris.  If an emergency would arise, please call 911, do not take matters into your own hands by entering standing water.  Please stay safe.
